To become a licensed child care provider in Washington, you must attend a Department of Early Learning (DEL) licensing orientation. A DEL licensor will share information and will be available for you to ask questions. Orientations are available in English and Spanish.
For those interested in becoming family home providers, there is an additional step before attending an orientation. Read and fill out an orientation survey in English, Spanish or Russian to determine if becoming a family home provider is the best choice for you and your family at this time. After completing the survey, bring or mail it to your local DEL office. Find mailing addresses.
Your completed survey is a "first-come, first-served" reservation for future orientations. You will be contacted by your local DEL office once you have been scheduled to attend an orientation.
With the exception of those who need Spanish- or Somali-only orientations, people who are interested in becoming family home providers will attend orientation at the DEL office that serves their home address. Orientations sometimes fill up, so DEL licensing offices use waiting lists for vacancies and future orientations.
